What’s That Hanging From Your Nose?

Cartoon of eye looking up nose and worm crawling in eye socket
Today is number 17 of my 30-day poetry-writing spree and things are still going well.
I
decided to write a poem about a silly drawing I used to draw on the chalkboard as a child. It certainly is one of the silliest things I used to draw—not to mention its grossness! Years ago, I drew it for my children and they got kicks out of it—except the medium was a blackboard not a computer program. Although the pics posted here look a bit different from the original, the gist of their appearance comes through...

With that… I give you the poem...

What’s That Hanging From Your Nose?

Eye looking up nose and tongue aimed at the other nostril
What’s that hanging in your nose?

Could it be Mom’s pantyhose

A pri-ck-ly long stemmed rose

No, it can’t—I don’t suppose

What is that laying in your eye?

Looks like a worm with a large green sty

Cartoon character with eye looking up nose and worm in eyeball
Doesn’t seem to gaze at the sky

Might be crawling toward your thigh

Why do you wear a shiny baldhead?

‘Cept that green hair and that red

Pro-ba-bly could toast wheat bread

O’er your brain in pan-shaped lead

Worm crawling in eye socket, eyeball looking up nose, tongue aimed at nose, earwax in nostril
Why do you have a purple lip?

Looks like a plastic paper clip

Strong enough to get a grip

On stair rails so you won’t slip

Never said what was in your nose

An-swer-ing I guess you chose

Not to say—not to disclose

‘Cause it’s where your earwax flows
